Powerful waves hit the Canary Islands all year around and along the coastline of Tenerife you can find good surfing. There are two beaches in Puerto de la Cruz and a number of great spots nearby.

Tenerife Surf Areas
Playa Martianez (Puerto de la Cruz)
This surf beach is situated just two minutes walk from the school, next to the Lago Martianez. It's an impressive curving beach, protected by a breakwater with two main surf areas where the waves break over sand/rock bottom. The first spot is a right-hander known by the locals as La Derecha. It’s great for beginners and longboarders. The second is called La Baja, and this is for the more advanced surfers.
Playa Jardin (Puerto de la Cruz)
Playa Jardin is found to the west of the Old Town. It is a long beautiful beach with rocks dividing it into two parts. The waves here are less consistent but when the swell is too big for Playa Martianez, this beach break works well. It suits surfers of all levels.
Playa Socorro
Outside Puerto de la Cruz there are a number of good surf beaches. Playa Socorro, which is 10 minutes by car or by bus west of Puerto de la Cruz, is one of the best. This secluded beach has some powerful waves and is extremely consistent.
La Caleta
La Caleta is found further west along the coast just outside the little village of Garachico. These rights and lefts work up to nine feet all year round.
Bajamar
The small town of Bajamar is situated a little further east of Puerto de la Cruz. Here you will find a majority of expert surfers. If you’re not feeling confident enough to join them, it is still a great place to visit, to watch and be inspired.
El Charco
This is a big, long left for experienced surfers, at it’s best in autumn and winter.
Fuera de la Bajeta
Fuera de la Bajeta is a very good, long right-hander that needs a north-northwest swell to hold good size.
Los Dos Hermanos
This break is set in a spectacular bay and has powerful rights and lefts. It is popular with more experienced surfers.
Southwest side of the island
There are world-class surf spots all over Tenerife. You can rent a car for a day with a group of friends and effortlessly explore the outstanding spots of the southwest side of the island such as La Izquierda, K16 and El Conquistador.
Surfing elsewhere
Take an Insted course in San Sebastian, Spain or Biarritz, France.
