Tests & Credits

National French Test, TCF

The TCF is given at specific centres in France and in the rest of the world on certain dates each year.  In Chamonix the test is organised each April. The test is optional and not included in our ordinary course program. The structure of the TCF test is similar as the English equivalent TOEFL and is a good "extra" proof of your language skills if you plan to work in France, in a French speaking country or with an international organisation. TCF test is given in April each year, this national proficiency test is optional and not included in our ordinary course program. The price is approximately 75€.

After completing the course you will receive an attestation with oral and written grades. All grades are given on a scale of 0-20 where a 10 means that you have passed. The student's total attendance and participation in class is also mentioned. If you have attended less than 80% of your classes the certificate will only record the actual number of classes (hours) you attended.

Weekly courses

After your weekly courses are finished you will receive a certificate with attendence and grading according to the scale 0-20.

Longer courses or semester programs

A final test is organised at the end of your stay to evaluate all parts covered in the program. This test and your results from the Contrôle Continu are used to establish your final grade. As per the weekly courses, all grades are given on a scale of 0-20 where a 10 means that you have passed. All students that have a final grade of 10 or more and total attendance of at least 80% will receive a Certificate de Stage, which is issued to certify that the student has completed a full semester program.

University Credits

Test and credits

Students who wish to receive American credits for our programs should contact the study abroad office or the language department at their college or university prior to starting the program and ask for detailed requirements on how to arrange credit in advance. With the detailed information from your home campus, we can typically provide all documentation needed to complete the arrangements.

The European credit transfer system (ECTS) is a method that is used to compare the marks given in education across the European Union. One academic year corresponds to 60 ECTS credits in all countries irrespective of standard or qualification type and is used to facilitate transfer and progression throughout the EU. The ECTS system also has a multi-grade scale as a complement to the different countries' individual grade scale.
