Getting There

Time & Date of Arrival

We advise you to plan your trip so that you do not arrive too late for the moving-in procedures, pick up of keys, etc. We recommend that you arrive in Chamonix around noon or in the early afternoon. If you arrive in the evening:

1. Notify Insted well in advance

2. If you arrive by transfer or taxi tell the driver that he will need to stop at one place to get the keys and a map before taking you to your accommodation.

You can travel to Chamonix either by plane, train, bus or car. Most students fly to Geneva and take a shared transfer bus to Chamonix.

By Air

The International Airport of Geneva is the closest airport to Chamonix. There are several transfer companies that operate between the airport and Chamonix. Other airports around Chamonix are found in Lyon, Chambéry and Grenoble.

By Car

The Autoroute Blanche motorway will take you by car all the way from Geneva to Chamonix. You can also reach the town by train. You change to a mountain train in St Gervais, half an hour from Chamonix.

By Bus

SAT Mont Blanc (+33 (0)450 50530115) - regional bus company that operates between Geneva airport and Chamonix on daily basis. A one-way ticket costs approximately 32€ and the estimated travel time is two hours. The timetable is available at the SAT website. 

By Train

SNCF French national rail company.

Shared Transfers

There are many transfer companies using minibuses to take people between Geneva and Chamonix. They operate a door-to-door service. The price is around 40€ per person and the transfer takes about an hour and 15 minutes.
