A cosmopolitan town and a surfer's paradise.
Biarritz Town
Cosmoplitan & paradise
Nightlife, bars and restaurants
Biarritz boasts a variety of restaurants, bars and nightclubs. You may choose to eat in one of the many brassieres, a casual bistro or an upmarket restaurant with Guide Michelin stars, all of which offer a variety of classic French fare and good international cuisine. A good way to start a night out in Biarritz is at Port des Pécheurs, an ideal spot for people watching with its sportfishermen, restaurants and fascinating crowds. Later you might end up at Le Caveau, one of the nightclubs in Biarritz, or try the hip Le Copa Cobana for Latin salsa along with every other kind of dance music.
Local population
Biarritz became famous in the 19th century when French, British and Russian aristocracy started spending their summers here at what is now the Hotel du Palais. The days of Biarritz being reserved for high society are long gone and today Biarritz is an affordable, vibrant, cosmopolitan town with magnificent beaches with 30 000 inhabitants in winter and 120 000 in summer.
