The Christmas market is here in Chamonix! Like the rest of France and Europe, towns and cities create Christmas markets for artisans, local food and speciality goods. Our local market has constructed little wooden cabins in the centre of town that are open from the 16th to the 30th December; definitely worth a visit and do try the vin chaud!

After your visit, you might have purchased a few stocking fillers! How about trying to make your own mulled wine/vin chaud with this recipe from allrecipes.fr (see english version below)

Ingrédients

  • 2 oranges

Use a well sharpened knife or a vegetable peeler to peel thin strips from the oranges. Pay attention to remove only the orange skin and not the white skin as the white will make it very bitter. Press the oranges.
Pour the white wine into a pan with the orange juice. Add the orange peels, ginger, cinnamon sticks, clove and the sugar. Mix well so that the sugar dissolves.
Cover and bring to a simmer over a medium heat. Do not let it boil! Leave to simmer for up to one hour at least so that all the flavours mix. Adjust the taste by adding the necessary sugar or honey. Pour into a jug through a strainer and serve hot.

Chamonix Market is now open!
