Explore
the mountains
The seasons show two very different
faces of Chamonix. In the summer there is rock
climbing, mountain biking and hiking whilst winter
offers skiing, ski touring and ice climbing. No
matter the time of year - the Chamonix valley
will keep you busy!
SKIING
Surrounded by the highest
peaks and largest mountain terrain in Europe,
it is no wonder that Chamonix has become such
a skier's Mecca.

CLIMBING
The Chamonix valley offers great conditions for
rock climbing - the long granite walls in the
Mont-Blanc range are world famous. Further down
in the valley, there are several good sport climbing
areas.
In winter, try ice climbing, an exciting sport
where you use crampons and ice axes on your way
up slippery surfaces of blue ice. Alpine climbing,
where you challenge high altitude gullies to your
peak of choice, is also hugely popular.
MOUNTAIN
BIKING During late spring, usually
starting in April, you will find many long and
fun trails to follow along the mountain sides.
There are many places in Chamonix where you can
rent a bike.

PARAGLIDING
Each day with good weather you will see the paragliders
flying through the skies. Many schools can teach
you how to do it. There are several take off points
in the valley, easily accessed by cabin lifts.
CANYONING
Explore the rivers, lakes and canyons in the Chamonix
region. Several guided tours are available during
summer.
INDOORS
Is the weather bad or do you want to stay indoors?
In the Richard Bozon sports centre you will find
a gym and a water park/ swimming pool. Chamonix
also has bowling alleys, tennis and squash courts.
There is also excellent indoor climbing at all
levels in both Chamonix and the neighbouring village
Les Houches.
